a classic catalan gothic church

The Church of Santa Maria del Pi is a classic Catalan Gothic Church built on the artistic principle and rich culture and history.  It has a wide interior with a single nave and its aisles have ornate chapels that seems to awaken and invigorate your spiritual and religious faith. From the inside, you will notice the amazing rib vault that encase the structure of the church.  This design has held the architecture of Santa Mari del Pi for centuries and it is truly amazing that today's visitor can watch this gothic architecture in awe and excitement. This church may not be as big as the other churches in Barcelona, but the experience that you will get by seeing and visiting the majestic structure and architecture of this church is equally exhilarating thus giving you a historical APPventure.

a journey in the medieval city of girona

Girona is a city in Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region known for its medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) and the Roman remains of the Força Vella fortress. A famous bridge called the Pont de les Peixateries Velles (Eiffel Bridge) that spans the Onyar River is the main entry into Girona’s medieval fortress. When you walk along the Eiffel Bridge, take a look at the spectacular view of the river with the reflection of the apartment buildings on the surface of the water and get your camera ready so you can take a shot of the scenery that is quite unique. As you enter Girona after walking through the bridge, your APPventure will allow you to experience the feeling of walking along with the ancient citizens of the town as you stroll down the medieval walls. There are several tower structures that graces the medieval walls and if you have the chance to get up there, you will wonder in awe as you look at the beautiful views of the city.
One of the must-see structures that dominates the skyline in this area is the Girona Cathedral, which was used to film the sixth season of the Game of Thrones. Check out the pictures below and it may even spark your memory of a specific scene of the show when you see the majestic staircase that leads to the doors of the cathedral. There are many other landmarks that you can explore in Girona but our pictures below will paint a more vivid APPventure for you.

appventure into the old city of Barrio Gótico

One of our most exciting APPventure led us to explore the old town Gothic Quarter in Barcelona. Here you will find old museums, churches, architecture and sculptures that collides with modern shops and restaurants. The narrow winding streets allows you to experience the old Roman village that once was there and the feeling of walking inside the old architectures add more excitement to the Gothic experience.  We tried visiting some shops and tried some restaurants that heightened our APPventure.  It's hard to get your bearings within the labyrinth of narrow and winding streets but let that experience capture your senses and imagination of walking in the old town of Barcelona. The Gothic Quarter is truly a remarkable landmark.

a cathedral in the gothic quarter of barcelona

APPventurers who plan on visiting Barcelona must also plan on exploring the marvelous fifteenth century Cathedral of Santa Eulàlia, also known as the Cathedral of Barcelona.  Located in the Gothic Quarter, this cathedral is one of the most visited sites due to its architectural style that dates back to the Roman Empire.  This amazing architecture began its construction in the thirteenth century and was completed in the fifteenth century.
Upon our entry from the main entrance of the cathedral, we were impressed with the massive space of the nave.  In fact, there are three naves that leads to a single apse.  Within its structure house several chapels that encircles the entire basilica.  Most profound structures are the two bell towers that is pretty evident and visible from the outside.  We had the privilege of climbing up to the rooftop to observe and explore the views from above.  This APPventure is truly breathtaking and we highly recommend that you include this on your itinerary when you visit Barcelona.

La Boqueria market

Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria or simply La Boqueria is a large market place that you will find along the La Rambla, which is a famous tree-lined pedestrian street.  When you walk along the La Rambla, you will see a lot of cafes and souvenir kiosks. But what will really catch your eye is the busy and bustling La Boqueria. The beautiful and colorful variety of fruits, meats, cheeses, nuts and other unique food options will truly make your eyes, nose, ears and mouth salivate.

You'll be amazed to know that this market place was first established in 1217.  In the 1800s, La Boqueria was recognized formally and an official structure was built to house the merchants that sold a variety of unique flavors of food. We explored La Boqueria more closely and even enjoyed eating a seafood lunch feast. This was an APPventure that you will not want to miss out on when visiting Barcelona.

Tour of casa mila

If you have been to Barcelona, you know you can't throw a stick without hitting something Gaudi-related. Well this is a gem. This was an apartment building he brought to life, with a promise he would have not interference in the construction. As he was always ahead of his time, the public did not take to his design. Either during construction or afterwards. As a matter of fact, it took decades before it was considered a jewel of Barcelona.
The building is a series of organic shapes, no straight lines, and amazing sculptures on the roof. They are actually chimneys but made as a homage to the history of Barcelona.
When you tour the apartments you first see the same waves and organic shapes of the building are mirrored to the inside walls and ceilings. Early tenets of the building were challenged to find furniture for a room without typical 90 degree walls.  Most residents ended up having their furniture custom made for their apartments.
Do see this location. For 25 Euro it is so worth the tour. Afterwards we had dinner in the restaurant on the  first floor, Cafe De La Pedrera. Check out the review and pictures in our Dining tab. :)

GAUDI TOUR WITH SKIP THE LINE TICKETS TO PARK GUELL

This first set of images is from Park Guell. What an amazing place to visit. Gaudi designed and  built this park as a refuge from the city that would encompass a sort of  community in a bubble. It never was realized, but what he did create was totally mind blowing. From meandering paths, whimsical bench seating, and buildings with the styles of Gaudi all around; make this a walking outdoor museum. Not to mention the amazing views from this location on a hill. It's a must see location.
The tour company was great. Our guide walked us through most of the Park and explained in great detail the Park and it's history. Afterwards we were given enough free time for pictures and to discover other hidden gems of the park.
Unfortunately there were some illegal vendors around the park that were clashing with each other (territorial I assume).  It was a bit off putting, but not a big deal.

Taking an APPventure to explore Barcelona can be overwhelming especially if you don't know where to begin.  Barcelona is such a big city with a lot of history and you surely do not want to miss a thing during your exploration of the historical sites.  To help you plan your APPventure, we highly recommend that you purchase at least an all day pass on the Barcelona Bus Turistic tour. During our tour, we decided to take full advantage of the bus line. To ensure we did, we purchased a two day pass. It was 40 Euro each, but well worth the price. We were able to see sites that we would later return to for a more in depth APPventure exploration.
This bus was awesome. Very clean and comfortable. There were so many buses on the line, coming every few minutes, that you really didn't need to wait long for a bus at any stop.  This will give you an all day access to the bus tour that will take you around to the emblematic corners of the city of Barcelona and will highlight the historical sites with an interactive tour through an educational audio narration using the earphones that they will provide as you enter the bus.  You can plug your earphones into the earphone jack on each seat.  Their busses are equipped with Wifi access and gives you the option to download thier app where you can access an interactive map of the city and the sites that you will be visiting. The bus tour will allow you to hop on and off at any of the site stops in case you want to explore a particular site. This makes a very economical tour that will give you a flavor of every site that you may want to explore in the future.  From the knowledge that you will gain and learn throughout your bus tour, you can highlight the site(s) that you would like to explore more deeply and then plan your visit and purchase your tickets to those sites.  This will save you a lot of planning time and will make you more informed of what should be your APPventure priority.  Plan your site visits carefully to save time.  We guarantee that you will have the greatest APPventure.

GAUDI TOUR ON A LUXURY MINIBUS WITH SKIP THE LINE TICKETS TO SAGRADA FAMILIA

On this part of our APPventure in Barcelona, we visited the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia. Another one of Gaudi's masterpieces. It has been under construction for about 135 years, with a scheduled completion date of 2026. We have been in many churches that are amazing, but only a couple that have taken our breath away. The first one to do this was St Peters in the Vatican. In contrast, the Sagrada Familia was another that just blew us away. Such beauty and detail. Check the images below. From the sunrise the stained glass is blue, giving a soft glow. For sunset, the stained glass on that end is yellow and orange. The way it paints the Baislica is indescribable. You must visit to appreciate this site.
The tour guide from We Barcelona Tour Company was very efficient in getting us in the Basilica. If you show up without a tour or tickets it is next to impossible to get in. So having the tour company handle the details of entrance is necessary. In addition to the tour, we also received an earpiece that gave us the history and details of every aspect of the Basilica. A very well rounded APPventure.
